The origin of the Mezuzha :
The origin for the mitzvah of Mezuzah is from Devarim-Deuteronomy 6:9 “Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”.
The meaning of this commandment is that every Jew needs to place a Mezuzah on every doorstep in their home except for bathrooms.
The importance of Mezzuzah: In the Jewish tradition the Mezuzah guards the home and the people that live in it.
It is accustomed that if there is a problem in the house there is a need to check the Mezzuzah to see if they are not defected. According to the Halacha there is a need to check the Mezuza twice every seven years; This is the reason why it is important to buy Mezzuza parchments that have gone through a Magi (a person that checks the parchment for errors).
A parchment that went through a Magi is marked as Muge in Hebrew. The Mezuza is written over 22 lines and has two Parshiot written on it: Shma Israel and Ve-Haya im Shamoa tishmeu.
To fix a Mezzuza, you need to follow the following steps
The Mezuza parchments should be wrapped with plastic bag for protection from humidity and dampness.
You need to roll over the Mezzuza parchment from the end to the start and insert it into the Mezuzah case with the "sadai" appearing on the outside of the Mezzuzah, and the shin should be on the top of the Mezuza case.
